One | re-encounter
re-encounter is exploring the external architecture of Lozi culture in its provincial and hybrid manifestations; a visual poem of self love.
The collection of photographs is an intuitive introduction into my Lozi ancestral context over the course of 11 months. For your eyes and the I’s whose shoulders I stand upon.
re-encounter works with hemp silk, 35mm film and digital photography to foreground my introspective journey into the indigenous soul.
A texture of time that is is restless, re-encounter threads images from the Western Province of Zambia and the Western Cape of South Africa; weaving together an archive of decolonial decadence.
We are descended from stars and gathering the scattered pieces of ourselves.
The question is do we feel worthy of self knowledge?
It is death to ego, a sacred suicide
It is a laying down of bones
from third eye cranium to jointed toes
we are not learning something new, we are remembering.
The opening of re-encounter took place on the evening of the Supermoon- 14.11.16
